A chorda tympani is a branch of facial nerve [ramus nervi facialis ] which carries afferent sensations from the anterior two-thirds of the tongue [lingua ], as well as secretomotor signals to the sublingual salivary glands [glandula sublingualis ] and submandibular salivary glands [glandula submandibularis ].
