Un décussation pyramidale est un décussation du névraxe [decussatio neuraxis ] qui se trouve dans le rhombencéphalon caudal [rhombencephalon caudale ] où les fibres de la voie corticospinale latérale [tractus corticospinalis lateralis ] se croisent du côté ipsilatéral au côté contralatéral de leur origine.

About the term decussation. The word decussation means crossing when speaking of fibrae or neural pathways of the neuraxis. A decussation occurs when the fibrae running on one side of the neuraxis move to the other side. The side is determined relative to the origin of the fibrae. When speaking of the side of origin, the adjective ipsilateral is used. When speaking of the opposite side, the adjective contralateral is used.A decussation is indeed a paired entity. It is made of a paired set of fibrae running on each side, which, at the point of decussation, cross the midline in a symmetric way, and then continue on the contralateral side. Consequently, there is a left and a right decussation representing each set of crossing fibers. |
